Our business philosophy of seeking to help others extends to our spare time as well. Charlie Sr has set an example by following the tried and true dictum, "Princeton in the Nation's Service." He always tries to make a difference whether serving as a volunteer or pursuing some other personal goal.

Making a difference as a volunteer

We are particularly proud of our founder's volunteer commitments to Princeton University, the AAF Rose Bowl Aquatics Center and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. Princeton and the Tournament of Roses captured most of his spare time - over 20 years commited to each organization.

For Princeton, Charlie served as a volunteer from the late 1970's through his Class presidency ending in 2000. During that 25 year period he raised over $12 million in unrestricted Annual Giving funds, led the Princeton Club of Southern California, and interviewed applicants. Under his leadership, the Class of 1970 set new AG records in 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000. His Class was the first to raise over $4 million twice. In recognition of his "exemplary and sustained performance on behalf of AG," Princeton presented Charlie with the Howard Helm Award in 1996.

Although Charlie's volunteer commitment to the AAF Rose Bowl Aquatics Center was appreciably shorter, he was nonetheless successful at saving from bankruptcy the largest competitive aquatics center in the western US.

Charlie's 23 year T of R career included chairing three committees and serving on six others. Charlie spent 15 years on the Street culminating in serving as Parade Manager and Chairman of Float Construction. Today, he proudly wears his Honorary Director Rosette.

The road less travelled

Charlie has always been a bit different. In the 1980's, he competed in marathons and 10K runs, took piano lessons at NY's Carnegie Hall and earned his SCUBA "C" card. In the 1990's, he took up water polo following in his kids' footsteps, subse- quently winning a Silver Medal (45 & over) at the VI FINA World Masters Championships in Sheffield, England, in 1996. In 2000, Charlie earned his LA County Emergency Medical Tech- nician certification, his State of California Phlebotomy certificate (think Dracula), and has been certified by UCLA as an ER trauma tech. Charlie has worked as a ER Tech at Pasadena's Huntington Memorial Hospital. He also taught phlebotomy at UCLA's Emergency Medicine Center for Prehospital Care.

Today, Charlie fills his Thursday evenings teaching securities analysis and investment management at the UCLA Extension School.
